HRRA LEARN-TO-ROW and NOVICE PROGRAMS ~ 2018
Summer
Fall
Prerequisite for all our rowing programs. You must know how to swim!
HRRA PROGRESSIVE ROWING PHILOSOPHY
pro-gres-sive
1. favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are.
2. characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement.
3. going forward or onward; passing successively from one member of a series to the next; proceeding step by step.
HRRA rowing programs, and particularly our novice curriculum, follow a progressive theory of learning similar to the progressive method most people are familiar with - swim lessons! Just as a guppy or minnow isn’t doing laps with the sharks, we believe novice rowers learn best when they are in a group with similarly skilled participants. This allows our novices to learn at the appropriate pace, focus on the skills they need to get to the next level, and forge relationships through shared experiences with their fellow novices.
Conversely, once you master the skills and start focusing on fitness or racing you won’t have to keep putting your own development on hold to teach others. Our coaches and volunteers take care of that for everyone!
Hundreds of Hudson Valley residents have become competent, successful rowers using this method and have moved on to a variety of personalized and fulfilling rowing experiences that have included recreational sculling, racing casually with friends at regattas, coaching their child’s crew team, and winning medals at National and World Championships!
One size does not fit all! Join HRRA and begin your own rowing journey on the Hudson!
