COACHING AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
COACH POSITIONS
Hudson River Rowing Association (HRRA) is seeking part time, coaches for its Winter and Spring Masters and Novice programs.
INDOOR ROWING LEAGUE CAPTAINS ~ an experienced rower (2 or more years) who acts as the captain for any of the IRL teams, organizing erg workouts and drills for enrollees. Captain would receive $65 credit toward program account. Up to 3 volunteer opportunities available.
INDOOR ROWING LEAGUE COACHES ~ Coaches needed to provide feedback and training guidance to adult rowers in our indoor tanks and on the ergs. One to 5 days available.
NOVICE COORDINATOR ~ an experienced rower (2 or more years) who acts as the coordinator for four, two hour Learn-to-Row clinics. Up to 4 volunteer opportunities available for a $25 program credit.
MASTERS TUNE UP ~ Coaches with launch experience needed for adult team that meets four days per week, two weeknights and two weekend mornings, late March through the end of May.
ROWING 101 ~ Coaches with launch experience needed for two clinics for novices that meet 8 times for 2.5 hours in May and June, two weeknights and two weekend mornings.
BOATHOUSE AND EQUIPMENT MANAGER ~ Five hours per week, March though May
GENERAL
Though men's and women's teams usually practice as separate teams, the teams may be combined depending on registration numbers and coaching coverage.
Coaches are given a certain amount of flexibility in the days and times they offer practice if needed to accommodate other commitments (ie. career, school, family …)
Compensation varies by position.
HRRA Preferred Qualifications Include:Current CPR/First Aid Card (we can also provide training if needed)
Motorboat training or experience
Knowledge of rigging and basic equipment maintenance and handling
Ability to work with collaboratively with other coaches and volunteers to coordinate resources, regatta logistics and boathouse use.
Previous crew coaching experience preferred but HRRA will also train new coaches that have previous rowing or coxing experience.
Responsibilities:
Comply with all HRRA procedures and policies
Coordinate all practice sessions and training programs with emphasis on safety and continuous progress for all athletes
Supervise athletes and all equipment
Oversee daily maintenance of equipment and facilities
Coordinate race entries and race logistics, including loading and unloading trailer
Terms of employment:
Independent Contractor or program credits
Must be 19 years of age and possess a valid New York State Drivers License
COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENT
HRRA members are asked to help support our programs, events and our boathouse by helping out a minimum of 3 hours each season you participate. Though 3 hours is the minimum amount, you can always volunteer more and at the end of the year HRRA will recognize those that volunteer the most at our Annual Meeting.
For the winter and spring HRRA will provide the following opportunities to fulfill your community service requirement:
- Indoor Sweep and Sculling Clinics ~ Late January ~ 16 hours of volunteer credits
- Moving Day ~ Late February/Early March ~ 20 hours of volunteer credits
- 9th Annual Hudson River Rowing Indoor Sprints ~ March ~ 100’s of hours of volunteering
- Indoor Learn- To- Rows ~ Monthly ~ 8 hours of volunteer credits
- Hudson River Rowing Boathouse Sweep~ April ~ 40 hours of volunteer credits
- Rowing 101 ~ May and June ~ 32 hours of volunteer credits
- National Learn-to-Row Day ~ June ~ 30 hours of volunteer credits
VOLUNTEER CREDITS
HRRA offers credits in the following amounts to members who commit to organizing and implementing certain critical tasks on behalf of our programs and the HRRA Community Boathouse. Credits are applied after the task has been fulfilled.

Gardens ~ HRRA would love to have your donations of hostas, daylilies or any other hardy perennial for the gardens. Volunteers to manage the gardening are needed as well.
Gas House management ~ design and installation of shelves
