NEXT YEARS PROGRAMS...
LEARN-TO-ROW
We offer Learn-To-Row sessions each summer for inexperienced juniors twelve to eighteen years old interested in learning to row. The goal of this program is to introduce the basic mechanics of rowing and racing and provide a foundation of skills that can be built upon in the future. Upon completion of the course athletes are encouraged to move on to the Fall Novice/Intermediate program and Juniors are encouraged to continue in their own scholastic programs to further develop their skills. Membership is not required to enroll in any Learn-to-Row program and upon completion each athlete becomes a member of HRRA for the remaining part of the year.

LEARN-TO-SCULL
These twelve session clinics will introduce juniors (18 or younger) who already know how to row to the format of sculling - rowing with two oars. Athletes will learn to scull in quads (shells with four scullers that go almost as fast as eights!) and will learn bladework, steering and racing concepts in a boat with no coxswain!

Session 2 ~ July 27 to August 14
JUNIOR SWEEPS
Our Junior Sweeps programs address a variety of athlete needs, focusing on skill-building and developing technical efficiency, speed and endurance. The goal of this program is to provide a forum for athletes to improve their skills and fitness in a relaxed but goal oriented setting under the supervision of an experienced coach. Though not required to compete, athletes are taught racing skills that enhance their performance, both recreationally as well as competitively. Athletes who choose to compete have the opportunity to race at approximately two events per season. Boat line-ups are determined at each practice and for races based on who is available, making this a good program for athletes who can't commit to a "set" boat or who may need to miss occasional practices or races due to work, school or family obligations.
Summer

ADVANCED ~ Junior A, Junior B and Open
The High Performance Development program has been designed to provide junior and open athletes the water time and coaching that further develop skills needed to become successful at the scholastic, national and collegiate level. This program focuses on skill and team building during intensive practice sessions taught by experienced collegiate and varsity level coaches. Summer mornings provide many hours of flat water, making it the best season to work on rowing skills that can be used throughout the year.
The initial try-out period will be used to put together advanced, competitive boats to represent the Hudson Valley at races throughout the Northeast. Based on the results of the ESG Try-outs, between five and ten junior girls as well as junior boys may possibly have the opportunity to win a chance to compete at the Games this year. Athletes may attend the Independence Day Regatta, Race Between the Bridges, AlbanyInvitational, Philadelphia Youth Regatta, USRowing Nationals and/or the Canadian Henley.
