
STROKE CLINICS ~ Feather with both hands? Dump the oar in your lap? Catch with your shoulders? Keep injuring your back? If you have heard these corrections, have recurrent injuries or are a sculler or sweep rower who doesn't get attentive coaching please join us for a series of stroke clinics in our brand new tanks throughout the winter. Brie Farley, Vassar College Crew Coach and Crafstbury Sculling Center caoch, will help adult rowers identify and resolve technique problems in the controlled setting of the HRRA Indoor Rowing Tanks. Each four hour clinic is $45 for HRRA members, $60 for non-members. Clinics will be held:
Intermediate Sweep Clinic ~ Saturday, January 19th, Saturday, 10am to 2pm
For the novice, non-racing or recreational rower (no complete novices)
Advanced Sweep Clinic ~ Sunday, January 20th, 10am to 2pm
For the rower with one or more seasons on a racing team
Novice Sculling Clinic ~ Saturday, January 26, 10am to 2pm
For rowers who have never sculled before or who have just the basics
Intermediate Sculling Clinic ~ Sunday, January 27, 10am to 2pm
For rowers who have completed a learn-to-Scull clinic or are certified independent scullers.
Snow Day: Saturday, February 9, 10am to 2pm
Volunteer Opportunity: for an HRRA rower who will videotape the first 2 hours of each clinic ~ 2 hour credit toward community service hours. 4 opportunities

Interested in learning about crew? These clinics are free and open to people of all ages. These are the first few of eleven opportunities to learn about rowing with HRRA throughout the year ~ contact us to learn about more!

COACHING AND SAFETY CLINICS
USRowing Level I and II Clinics: ~ HRRA is pleased to host these clinics to help develop our regional coaching talent!
LOCATION: 270 N. Water Street, Poughkeepsie, NY Hudson River Rowing Association Boathouse
DATE: January 5 - 6
TIME: 9 to 5 Saturday, 9 to noon or 1 on Sunday.
COST: $125 for level I, $150 for the level II, includes manual and test on site.

CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator Training –In order to help local coaches comply with state safety guidelines, HRRA sponsors an American Heart Association CPR clinic with defibrillator training each year. Space is limited for this clinic and priority will be given to regional scholastic, collegiate and club coaches and HRRA members. Participants are trained on the specific models of defibrillator each program uses and the certificate is good for two years..

NYS Boating Safety ~ HRRA sponsors a NYS Boating Safety Course each year for coaches, coxswains and HRRA members. This one day clinic is taught by a member of the Westchester County Police special forces and participants in this clinic will earn a lifetime boating safety certificate which is required of all individuals driving a motorized boat. Space is limited for this clinic and priority is given to regional scholastic, collegiate and club coaches and HRRA members. We encourage coxswains and scullers to attend this clinic as well. There is an additional fee payable to New York State that you will send in to receive your certificate. ~ Register Online

Strength and Fitness Clinics ~ HRRA will offer two clinics to increase awareness of strength and conditioning methods outside of rowing. One clinic will be aimed at coaches to help them utilize weights, plyometrics, stretching and other conditioning techniques to make their athletes stronger, more flexible and to help prevent injuries. The second clinic covers the same material but is geared towards the adult athlete.

Coxswains Clinic ~ This clinic will consist of two sessions. The first session will cover coxing basics, including steering, vocabulary and safety. The second session will delve into more complex theories and methods that build upon the basics. We invite coxswains from all of the local programs to attend these sessions.

Motorboat Clinic ~ For coaches who need to learn about maintenance, safety and operation of outboard motors. This a practical, hands on course. Required for all new coaches operating out of the boathouse and recommended for all!
